It has been great to listen to so many terrific composers over the last few months! For today's list, I offer three compositions from the recent League of American Orchestras conference in Houston Texas. I will share the remaining compositions from this conference in part 2 and part 3 of this series.
Though I continue to be disappointed that top financially tiered symphony orchestras across the globe are NOT increasing their diversity performance (see Donne Equity and Diversity in Global Repertoire), I am thrilled to see and to hear about all of the interesting and innovative projects that smaller organizations are producing that make HUGE impacts on their communities.
With this, I would like to give a HUGE shout-out to ROCO, their awesome Executive Director (and principal oboist) Alecia Lawyer and conductor Mei-Ann Chen, as well as to the Seattle Collaborative Orchestra and their musical team. These two orchestras are making huge and impactful differences in their communities while inspiring others to increase diversity on the concert stage across the country.
Everything Conducting would LOVE to hear about YOUR ensembles. So many of YOU are making great impacts in your communities. Please tell us what you are doing as well as which amazing composers you are bringing to your audiences. We would love to share your successes!
Here is a toast to all of you who celebrate great music, showcase diverse backgrounds, and create welcoming and interesting concert programs!
I hope you enjoy!
Anna
